About
Me/Class:

I teach Pre-Algebra and
Algebra I for 8th grade here at Poplar Bluff Junior High School. I graduated Magna
Cum Laude from Southeast Missouri State
University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle School Education
with an emphasis in Mathematics. I received my Masters degree in Secondary
Education from Southeast Missouri State University and graduated with
Honors. I have lived in Poplar Bluff for over fifteen years. My husband
graduated from Poplar Bluff, and we have two children: Matt, who is a
freshman at Three Rivers Community College and Gabby, who is a sophomore at
Poplar Bluff High School.
I have two cats,
Gretzky
and Sox
.
I have two dogs, Jake
and Sasha
.
I enjoy reading, and my family and I enjoy civil war reenacting.
Please read
over my classroom guidelines. These guidelines have been discussed with
your son or daughter. I tried to include all my expectations, so that your
son or daughter will know these in advance. My goal is to create
a positive learning experience for each student.
Since students learn in a variety of ways and every child is
unique, I will attempt to be as flexible as I can in dealing with each
student. The basic format for the class will include daily (or almost
daily) homework or in class assignments worth 30% of the grade. Tests,
quizzes, conduct/participation, and notebook test grades are worth 70% of the grade.
Each quarter, every student will receive 100 points for conduct. For each
demerit he/she gets, 3 points are taken off this grade and will be averaged
into his/her test grade average.
Students are required to keep a notebook, and every quarter
a notebook test will be given (it is worth a test grade). I do not assign
extra credit, but do give many opportunities for bonus points. After each
test is graded, it will be sent home to be signed by you. Please sign these
and when your son or daughter returns it the day after it is sent home, then
bonus points will be awarded.
Please feel free
to e-mail me, call me, or send a note for any questions or concerns you
may have. If you want a conference, please let me know ahead of time, so
that we can set up an agreeable time. I can be reached during my prep
hour between 12:50 p.m. to 1:42 p.m. Monday
through Friday at the school. My email address is
cwheat@pb.k12.mo.us. Thank you for allowing me to teach your child.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chris Wheat
